​As a professional biochemical engineer, Steven joined the University of Otago as a postdoctoral Fellow after completing his PhD from the University of Adelaide in 2017. He was later promoted to Research Fellow in 2019. In 2021, he was appointed as an adjunct associate professor at the Department of Bone and Joint, The First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University. In July 2022, he joined the School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor at CUHKSZ.

Steven specializes in the interface of stem cells, biomaterials, biofabrication, and tissue engineering. He has a special interest in cartilage and bone regeneration, as well as cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment. His expertise includes polymer synthesis, tissue culture, anticancer drug screening, drug and gene delivery systems, and stem cell therapy. Currently, he is leading several pre-clinical trials in the field of tissue engineering.

Steven has received the 2021 WFIRM Young Investigator Award from the International Society for Biofabrication. Additionally, he has received a provisional PhD scholarship from the University of Adelaide, University of Otago Divisional Health Science Postdoctoral Fellowship, National Heart Foundation of New Zealand Research Fellowship, New Zealand Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Science Whitinga fellowship, and New Zealand Foundational Advice Emerging Researcher Award. As a Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Cui has also received project grants from various funding agency.

Steven serves as an associate editor of Frontiers in Biomaterials Science (https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/biomaterials-science) and BioMedical Engineering OnLine (https://biomedical-engineering-online.biomedcentral.com), and is a part of the early career researcher (ECR) editorial boards of Exploration (Weily), Military Medical Research (BMC, Spring Nature), and Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids (EVCNA).

Dr Liu graduated from East China University of Science and Technology with a focus on biochemical engineering and the biopharmaceutical industry. His current research interests are centered on plant stem cells and plant molecular biology. In his daily life, he enjoys various sports and road trips.

Xiaosi He

I study how epigenetic regulation, like DNA methylation and histone acetylation, influences the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). My goal is to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets to improve treatments for NSCLC patients. I enjoy hiking for its blend of exercise and relaxation, and painting as a creative outlet.

As a graduate student in biological sciences, I have a strong interest in understanding and treating human diseases. My research has focused on methods to reduce cell damage in the early stages of myocardial infarction, and I am eager to continue exploring treatments for this condition. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing badminton, singing, and swimming with friends. I also find creative fulfillment in drawing and role-playing.
